Pick ONE of the essay topics below for your paper.

1.      Use examples from The Namesake, “The Management of Grief”, “Jesus Shaves”, and from your own experience if it applies to explain the experience and the challenges of assimilation. Use examples from the texts along with outside sources to support your thesis.

2.      Compare “Araby” and “A&P.” “A&P” is often looked at as an updated version of “Araby”. For this essay compare the two stories and discuss what they have in common and perhaps what they do not. Use examples from the texts along with outside sources to support your thesis.

3.      “Araby”, “A&P” and the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind all deal with a certain kind of disappointment in love for the characters involved. Discuss this topic in at least two of these stories. Use examples from the texts along with outside sources to support your thesis.

4.      Discuss the role of memory and memories in at least two of the following stories we discussed: “Araby”, “The Management of Grief”,  and the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. 5.      We looked at the importance society places on appearance when discussing "Good Country People", "The Temp" and Edward Scissorhands. Use an example from at least two of these texts to explain how appearance played a role in their stories while discussing how important it is in today’s world. 6.      We discussed how the lighter in “The Temp” and how  the leg from “Good Country People were both strong symbols in each story. Explain what theyr represented in each story. Use examples from the texts along with outside sources to support your thesis

7.      The two strongest symbols in “Good Country People” are the Bibles the Bible salesman carries and Hulga’s false leg. What do they represent? How do they play a role in the story? . Use examples from the texts along with outside sources to support your thesis
